A RESOLUTION

RECOMMENDED BY THE SESSION AND PASTOR FOR

ADOPTION BY THE CONGREGATION OF THE

EASTERN HEIGHTS PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH

Whereas, the Congregation of the Eastern Heights Presbyterian Church of Savannah, Georgia affirms and believes the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments to be the Word of God, the only infallible rule of faith and practice, and the Westminster Confession of Faith and the larger and Shorter Catechisms, as originally adopted by the Presbyterian Church in the United States in 1861, to be the system of doctrine taught in the Holy Scriptures, and

Whereas, the Presbyterian Church in the United States has violated its constitution and departed from the faith and practice as held by said Church at the time Eastern Heights Presbyterian Church became affiliated. Some of these violations and departures being:

1.   The ordaining of women as preachers and ruling elders contrary to the teaching of the Scriptures in

      1 Timothy 2:11-3:5, Titus 1:6; 2:3-5; 1 Corinthians 14:34-350

2.   Making pronouncements and recommendations which concern civil, economic, social and political matters, which is contrary to the Confession of Faith, Chapter 33:40

3.   Giving support to the removal of Bible reading and prayers by children in the public schools.

4.   Making declarations which would have the effect of assuming ownership of local church property contrary to civi1 1aw, thereby assuming illegal authority in civil affairs, and

Whereas, Through the Board of Christian Education of the Presbyterian Church in the United States, Foundation Papers have been adopted for the Covenant Life Curriculum which tend to supercede the Confession of Faith, particularly Chapter I, and introduces and teaches Neo-orthodoxy, which is alien to the Confession of Faith and the Catechisms as originally adopted in 1861 by the Presbyterian Church in the United States, and

Whereas the Presbyterian Church in the United States through its General Assembly has caused all members of the Church to remain in the National Council of the Churches of Christ in the United States of America, and willingly accepts the leadership of said Council which advocates such things as the subverting of parental authority, civil disobedience, and intermeddling in civil affairs, now therefore, be it

Resolved, That the Congregation of the Eastern Heights Presbyterian Church declares itself to be autonomous under the active Lordship of Christ Jesus and does herewith sever all connections with and remove itself from all ecclesiastical control, jurisdiction and oversight of the Presbyterian Church in the United States, including the National Council of Churches of Christ in the United States of America and the World Council of Churches in order that we may reaffirm and maintain our adherence to the Westminster Confession of Faith and the Larger and Shorter  Catechisms as originally adopted by the Presbyterian Church in the United States as containing the system of doctrine taught in the Holy Scriptures, and declare our obedience to the Word of God.

                   ADOPTED AT A CONGREGATIONAL MEETING

HELD ON APRIL 17, 1966 by a vote of 122 - 0.
